Barrel springs is compression springs that differ in shape slightly from the standard straight helical coil of compression springs. Barrel springs are a class of barrel-shaped tapered springs with slightly larger helical coils in the center of the spring. Straight tapered or conical springs have helical coils that decrease in diameter from one end to the other in a consistent gradient.
